Trying to narrow down the best place to stay in Charleston, SC, can seem like a daunting task.
With multiple neighborhoods and attractions to choose from and cute, vibrant streets around every corner, how ever will you choose the best place to stay in this charming, southern town?
Well, after my experience staying at Emeline, I can attest to the fact that this gorgeous, transformed, boutique hotel is absolutely the best place to stay in Charleston!
If you need further convincing, here are 6 reasons why:
Charleston is a walking down, and if you’re going to walk everywhere, you need to base your stay in the best location.
Emeline is nestled in the perfect spot, within walking distance to all the best restaurants, shops and streets you’ll want to explore while in town!
Located just two blocks from the popular King Street–which is arguably the most famous street in Charleston and hosts an array of restaurants, art galleries, clothing boutiques, antiques and home decor shops–you’ll be surrounded by everything you need for a fun-filled weekend!
The hotel is also located just a block away from the historic, open-air market and within walking distance to several incredible restaurants (one of my favorites being F.I.G.).
When choosing the best place to stay in Charleston, you (of course) want to pick a place that embodies the history and culture of the town you’re visiting.
As soon as you walk through the historic front doors of Emeline, you are immediately captivated by the cool, hip and laid-back vibe of this completely remodeled vision of a hotel!
Local artisans helped to create the vision and decor of the hotel, which aids in making it feel like you’re walking into the foyer of a historic, Charleston home full of South Carolina treasures (instead of a stuffy, boring hotel lobby).
The large, comfortable king bed (with a gorgeous velvet green headboard that I NEED for my own house) and luxurious bathroom with walk-in shower and DEEP soaking tub will have you possibly never wanting to even leave your room.
One of my favorite aspects of the hotel, though, is the curated vinyl record collection, with Crosley turn tables available in every room! What better way to pay respect to the music focus of the city, than providing every hotel guest with their very own turntable and record selection?
Grab some fresh fruit on the way to your room (that’s freely offered in the foyer of your floor), nestle into your luxurious room, open the yellow velvet, blackout drapes and let the sunlight and boisterous city light up your private quarters.
Slip a record out of its sleeve (in relation to whatever your mood may be), carefully place it on the Crosley turntable, set the needle and let the music fill the space!

As an avid coffee drinker (and a picky one at that), I know an incredible coffee shop when I find one–and Clerks Coffee, situated on the lobby floor of Emeline, had me falling in love with coffee all over again.
With their unique array of innovative coffees and drinks and inviting charm and character, I frequented Clerks at least once (if not twice) a day!
How convenient is it to have your very own hotel coffee shop (and a good one at that), just an elevator ride away?
I thoroughly enjoyed waking up every morning and picking a different coffee drink and scone to pick me up and start my morning off right!
This incredible coffee shop, on location, is reason alone (in my opinion), to choose Emeline when deciding the best place to stay in Charleston!
Fun Fact: Clerks Coffee was also named after the history of the building! Mr. Williams, the original owner of the building, made his first store clerks partners in his business. Clerks, is named in their honor.
Housing one of the best restaurants in Charleston, Frannie & The Fox, along with one of the most magical courtyards, you don’t even have to leave the hotel to dine on delicious wood-fire grilled pizza and dishes, shareable plates and excellent craft cocktails.
This wood-fired establishment with an Italian flare serves up thoughtfully-sourced, local ingredients in a charming and cozy location that will make you feel right at home.
Open for breakfast, brunch and dinner, you have plenty of options to experience this popular restaurant for yourself!
The Keep Shop, located on the lobby floor, right in between the concierges desk and the popular Frannie & The Fox restaurant, was honestly one of my favorite shops I visited in Charleston.
Filled with a curated selection of rare, hand-crafted and unique local goods, you’ll find a variety of luxurious jewelry, home-goods, clothing, accessories, print designs and more!
They even had jewelry from one of my favorite New Orleans jewelry artists, Saint Claude!
Throughout the last century, 181 Church Street has had many different facades, which all contribute to Emeline’s unique identity and experiences.
Starting out as a successful wholesale grocery business in 1852 by a Charleston entrepreneur that generated millions in revenue, the building later housed various business as occupants came and went over the years.
Emeline was later transformed into the luxurious boutique hotel that it is today, and I seriously cannot wait to stay there again the next time I visit this vibrant southern town!
When choosing the best place to stay in Charleston, how can you not pick a hotel that is so rich in history, just as the city itself?
