Calling all wine lovers! If you aren’t familiar with this cute German town, I’ve put together a guide of the best wineries in Fredericksburg, Texas, along with everything you need to know to have an amazing weekend in the heart of Texas Wine Country!
Texas Hill Country is arguably one of the most beautiful destinations in all of Texas, but no trip is complete without a visit to Fredericksburg.
This little German, gem of a town is possibly the most well-known in Texas Wine Country, and since it is perfectly located in the center of the state, it also happens to be the best weekend getaway! Whether you road trip from Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, or any of the other surrounding areas, an incredible wine weekend is only a short drive away.
Established by German immigrants in the mid-1800s, this charming town feels even more like an escape, as the German influence and culture is still vibrant throughout the city.
Filled with delicious cuisine, incredible wine, charming shops and friendly people, Fredericksburg is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway, bachelorette party, family reunion or a weekend with friends!
If these pictures haven’t convinced you already, Emma Haus was a DREAM to stay in during my most recent trip to Fredericksburg, and it was possibly my favorite Airbnb I’ve stayed in, to this day! (Seriously, I “almost” didn’t want to leave the house because it was SO amazing!)
New to Airbnb? Sign up using my link and get up to $65 off your first booking + experience!
Or, sign up to host your own home on Airbnb and start earning some extra income!
This insanely charming Airbnb in Fredericksburg is located in a prime location, just one block off the West End of Main Street in Fredericksburg’s Historic District, and offers an unbeatable escape for a romantic getaway or a small girl’s trip!
Emma Haus is the most adorable, private guest house, with that quintessential Hill Country vibe, and all the amenities you could ever ask for. The owners went above and beyond and thought out every last detail to ensure the most enjoyable stay. From the luxury, newly remodeled bathroom (with a huge 2-person shower) , INSANELY COMFORTABLE king size bed (possibly one of the coziest beds I’ve ever slept in), the most charming & inviting front porch, fully stocked kitchen and bathroom and tons of living space, this eclectic cottage will have you never wanting to leave!
As if Emma Haus hadn’t already exceeded my expectations, on top of providing luxurious amenities throughout the home–such as quality bathroom travel essentials (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower gel), a Nespresso coffee maker and a smart TV, just to name a few–the generous hosts also gift every guest with a couple of German style beers from a local brewery, as well as a set of koozies AND cookies stamped with the Emma Haus logo! I mean, how cute and thoughtful is that?!
It’s the little things like that (in addition to the overwhelming luxury and hospitality provided, of course) that make Emma Haus one of the best places to stay in Fredericksburg, TX!
Be sure to check them out on instagram and reserve your stay soon, as they book up fast!
Enjoy one of the three gorgeous modern farmhouse designed units (pictured above is unit No.3) at Austin Four Twelve, just one block from Main Street!
Just a short walk to food, shopping and live music, Austin Four Twelve sits on one of the best streets to walk and is another great option if you want to experience the town firsthand.
Each unit, although varying slightly in design, is beautifully furnished, decorated with luxury finishes and has their own private courtyard boasting a hot tub, TV, chiminea and outdoor shower!
I was planning to stay here for a girls trip on my birthday weekend (which was the 1st weekend in April), but I will have to postpone the trip, unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus quarantine mandate.
So, although I haven’t had the opportunity to stay at Austin Four Twelve just *yet*, I can still confidently recommend these chic units and know they will provide a perfect weekend getaway in Fredericksburg!
Want an escape that feels like you’ve been transported to Tuscany? Then the villas at Baron’s Creek Vineyards are sure to be the perfect experience! Plus, you’re literally feet away from one of my winery recommendations (keep reading to see more!)
Choose between one of the guest bedrooms on the lower level or a master suite on the upper level, and not have to worry about driving to one of the wineries!
All guests also receive a complimentary champagne toast at sunset in the winery!
Another home I highly recommend when booking a rental in Fredericksburg is this super cute, 2-bedroom cottage right near Main Street! I stayed here with 4 of my best girl friends on my most recent trip to Fredericksburg this year (September 2021), and we loved it!
Our host, Thomas, was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond for any requests we had! Plus, the location is PERFECT being so close to Main Street!
The decor was thoughtful, the rooms were cozy and the little extra touches (like leaving a snack bowl of microwaveable popcorn and goodies for us–which we REALLY needed after our first winery, ha!) really helped make this stay so wonderful!
I would definitely stay here again, and I highly recommend it if you are wanting more space!
If these photos haven’t convinced you already, Signor Vineyards is an absolute MUST when visiting Fredericksburg, and it was probably my favorite overall experience of all the wineries.
I was blown away by the outstanding quality of the wines, the enchanting Sonoma-chic style decor and the laissez-faire ambiance drifting around every corner.
The overall charm and experience, along with the friendliness and inviting nature of every person I met there, made me never want to leave! Seriously, make sure you plan AT LEAST a few hours for your visit because you will want to soak it in as much as you can!
The focus at Signor Vineyards is on growing premium varietal fruit and the crafting of exceptional, soulful wines.
Also, the history behind the start of the winery is pretty cool. It all started when two families, the Signors and the Weisingers, first became friends three generations ago in the 1950s. Now, the two entwined family histories continue as the 3rd generation, Eric Weisinger (the winemaker here who grew up in the business at The Weisinger Family Vineyard in Oregon) and Clay Signor, have come together as winemakers (and friends)!
BONUS: If you’re a fan of wines produced in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, then this is the place for you as some of the grapes grown and wines made ere produced in that very region!
They also have the CUTEST gift shop, Joanna’s Market, that you cannot miss! It has a gourmet sandwich shop in the back of it, and it’s stocked with the best snacks, sweets, decor and gifts!

Calais Winery may not look like much from the outside (honestly, I almost missed it when following google maps because I was thinking I should be looking for a bigger building), but passing up this winery would be the biggest mistake you could make when planning out which wineries to visit in Fredericksburg.
The owner, Ben, is from Calais, France and produces Bordeaux style wines with 100% Texas grown grapes. If you know me, you know my love for Bordeaux wines, and these wines are the real deal!
The wines are produced using Old World methods with exceptional quality and care, making you feel like you are truly wine tasting in France! To say I was completely blown away by the quality of these wines is an understatement, and feel like these wines are possibly the best I’ve tasted (thus far) in Fredericksburg.
Make sure you schedule either a Cave Tasting or the Cabernet Sauvignon Experience experience in advance due to the the intentionally limited space in the cave!
The Cave Tasting offers a relaxed and intimate tasting experience at their long reclaimed wood tasting table, while the Winemaker’s Table reserve’s a spot at the farm table located in the back of the cellar for an extended and intimate tasting experience with Ben, the French winemaker.
You truly can’t go wrong with either experience. The only mistake, as I said, would be not adding this hidden gem to your list!

When French wine meets Texas (again!), just as the name suggests! Remember the owner of Calais, Ben, I mentioned above? Well he, along with 3 others, started this wonderful winery that also produces “French” wine, made with 100% Texas grapes!
Of course, producing quality wines is also the focus of this boutique winery, and you will not be disappointed! Plus, just look how charming the venue is, with French vibes and stunning views!
This is definitely one of the best wineries in Fredericksburg! (Seriously, though, the wine is fantastic! Do not miss this winery!)

Augusta Vin is a fairly newer Texas Hill Country winery that offers award-winning wines, breathtaking panoramic views and a gorgeous estate to soak in the atmosphere (and wines, hehe).
My girlfriends and I visited this winery together for the first time, and the wines were outstanding! I highly recommend booking a tasting at this winery!
I actually happened to befriend the owner’s fiancé at the airport wine bar at Dallas Love Field right before boarding my flight to San Antonio (as it’s the closest airport to Fredericksburg) that she was also on!
It was such a funny coincidence (and small world) that we happened to start talking at the bar as we waited for our flight, especially when we realized I had already booked my first tasting the next day at their winery!
She ended up meeting us at Augusta Vin the next day, enjoyed some wine with us, and introduced us to the owner! We had such an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to return (and drink the bottles I brought back)!
If you would like to add this winery to your list of the best wineries to visit in Fredericksburg, just make sure you map and plan it out accordingly. The winery isn’t located on the Texas 290 Wine Trail, like several of them are, and is actually located a bit south of Fredericksburg.
Still, this winery is a must-visit, in my opinion, during your trip to Fredericksburg!

Ab Astris is a family-owned, boutique winery in the heart of Texas Hill Country that is dedicated to producing excellent hand-crafted vintages with Texas-grown fruit.
The estate was established in 2018, and it is probably one of the best “hidden gem” wineries in Fredericksburg per several different recommendations by the locals. I always love seeking out local recommendations of wherever I’m visiting, and this winery was repeatedly recommended by those who knew and lived in the area, and even by someone in the industry at another winery we visited!
The tasting room is located between Stonewall and Hye on the Texas 290 Wine Trail, adjacent to the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park, and boasts a mix of contemporary and Hill Country vibes. Make sure and head to Ab Astris during your weekend in Fredericksburg to experience some finely crafted Texas wine!

What stood out the most to me at Baron’s Creek Vineyards was actually the ambiance.
The property itself, as well as the surrounding atmosphere and landscape, are absolutely stunning! Like I said before, it truly makes you feel like you are wine tasting in Tuscany, not Texas! The entire property is spacious and well laid out, with beautiful design details and plenty of areas to hang out.
If you decide to do a wine tasting, I recommend the Wine and Cheese Pairing. Taylor, who did our pairing, is a chef, and she expertly selected the perfect pairings to accompany the wine and bring out the notes!
If I’m being honest, the wine here wasn’t my absolute favorite, but the views and ambiance alone are worth a visit.

Bill and Chris, the two winemakers at William Chris Vineyards, share the same philosophy for winemaking and focus on low impact, 100% Texas grown grapes.
The winery is situated on a historical homestead that offers stunning views and features the original 1905 farmhouse! They utilize Old-World winemaking techniques (which is a must in winemaking, in my opinion) “to create a genuine expression of the Hill Country’s distinctive terroir.”
They also offer several amenities, such as light fare, an on-site vineyard, picnic area, live music, and lawn games. They are also pet and kid friendly!
William Chris Vineyards came highly recommended as one of the best wineries in Fredericksburg, and it should definitely not be missed!

Heath Sparkling Wines, the new tasting room at Grape Creek Vineyards, is the first Texas winery that is solely dedicated to sparkling wines.
They offer a unique “multi-sensory” tasting experience which involves the champagne flight paired with a perfectly selected accompaniment, in addition to a virtual tour.
Don’t you think sipping some bubbly is a great way to start your day of wine tasting and change things up a bit?
Then, you can just head on over to Grape Creek Vineyards on the same property and check out some of their award winning wines!

Pedernales Cellars is a family-run, boutique winery that specializes in world-class Spanish and Rhone (French) style wines, including benchmark Tempranillo and Viognier. Not only does this 6th generation Texas family take crafting wine seriously, but another reason they are on my list of the best wineries in Fredericksburg is because they also use ecologically and environmentally sustainable practices during the wine-making process! (Amen!)
Nestled on 146 wooded acres overlooking the Pedernales River Valley, this winery will have you never wanting to leave as you sip your hand-crafted wine while soaking in those breathtaking Hill Country views!
The focus of the wines at Pedernales Cellars are on grape varieties than can be grown in Texas, and they source most of their grapes from Vineyards in the Texas Hill Country and Texas High Plains.
Additionally, you can enjoy a flight of 6 pre-selected wines from their fixed tasting menu, and every tasting fee includes a complimentary wine glass to take home as a souvenir, as well.

Not only is Becker Vineyards one of the best wineries to visit in Fredericksburg, but it is also one of the oldest. The Becker’s purchased the estate back in 1990, which was then just an old cabin with 46 acres of raw land along with it.
Now, the entire estate is comprised of a 10,000 square foot winery and tasting room with 56 acres of vineyards, a lavender farm, an outdoor verandah, an underground wine cellar and even a reception hall for events.
Becker Vineyards’ wine has even been served in some of the grandest of settings, such as the White House (served 7 times), the James Beard Foundation in New York, the Texas Governor’s Mansion, and several other renowned restaurants in Texas and the United States.
In addition, this winery also uses 100% Texas-grown grapes when crafting their wines, and was the first winery to introduce Viognier in Texas!
Plus, they also offer the convenience of walk-in tastings so no reservation is required!
P.S. Don’t forget to partake in their complimentary winery tour offered every weekend starting at 11:30am and every after after until 4:30pm!

With a convenient location right off West Main St. in historic Fredericksburg, Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten is situated in a quintessential cottage with an authentic weinkeller. The stone-walled courtyard weingarten provides a friendly, family atmosphere in an inviting setting, resembling that of the heurigen (rustic wine taverns serving wine and food in a courtyard setting) in Vienna, Austria.
Pontotoc Vineyards mission is to make vintage wines of exceptional quality with grapes grown solely in the Texas Hill Country, and this fifth generation Texas farming family take great pride in their hard work. Furthermore, the grapes are hand-harvested and hand-selected to ensure the wines are only made with premium quality fruit, which is (of course) why they are on my list of the best wineries to visit in Fredericksburg!
This Weingarten is the perfect spot to wind down after a long day, soak in the ambiance, and enjoy some excellent local food and wine!

Otto’s German Bistro offers farm-to-table German cuisine on a seasonally-focused menu crafted by the culinary team. They are dedicated to using local, organic produce, as well as only high-quality product sourced further afield, and I can highly recommend this dining experience as one of the best restaurant’s in Fredericksburg!
I was completely blown away by the quality and complexity of the foods and wine list! Each dish tasted as though I were eating at a 5 star restaurant, and the flavors did not disappoint (trust me, I’m from Louisiana which has made me a low-key food snob)!
How amazing do those plates look? Because it tasted even better than the photos look!
The menu highlights not only what you can find in Germany and Austria, but also explores the German cuisine of Alsace, Northern Italy and even includes Texas!
It would be a huge mistake to not include this restaurant in your weekend in Fredericksburg itinerary, but make sure you make reservations in advance, as they book up fast (understandably so)!

The other best restaurant in Fredericksburg that completely blew me away was Vaudeville. The restaurant offers two dining experiences: the Bistro and the Supper Club, as well as a gallery and a home decor boutique.
The Bistro, where I had the pleasure of eating dinner one night, offers new American comfort style food in a European atmosphere (yes, please!). The culinary team reinvents classic dishes with their own twist, and every single thing we ordered was outstandingly delicious. Again, the entire experience completely exceeded my expectations and left me wishing this restaurant were in Dallas, as well, so I could go as often as I pleased!
If you can’t tell by now, not only am I a food snob, but I’m a wine snob as well (sorry, not sorry hehe)–which is why I always highly respect and appreciate a great wine list (I feel like there are so many restaurants in Dallas with lackluster wine lists that are just so disappointing, but that’s a rant for another day!). If you feel me on this even the slightest bit, I can assure you that Vaudeville will not disappoint on the quality of food and wines they offer!
In addition, the restaurant also sources locally produced ingredients for another major plus, and even has a little coffee shop/bakery in the restaurant as well.
Bistro Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 10am – 4pm
Friday & Saturday: 10am – 9pm
Sunday: 10am – 5pm
The Supper Club, which was unfortunately not operating when I was visiting in the beginning of January, is considered a culinary adventure that came highly recommended to me by locals and visitors, alike.
The 7-course, chef’s tasting menu is designed for epicureans and features rich, cultural flavors, along with vibrant local ingredients. The romantic courtyard setting it takes place in really sets the tone and prepares the senses for this intimate, elegant, and meticulously thought-out dining experience.
One of the visitors I met at the Bistro told me she has dined all over the world in some of the finest restaurants, and the Vaudeville Supper Club was one of the best meals she’s ever had!
Please note that the Supper Club is on the more expensive end of the best restaurants in Fredericksburg at $135 per person at the time of writing this (with the option of adding wine pairing for $95); however, you are paying for the overall experience in addition to the exceptional cuisine!
Also, if you happen to be in Fredericksburg on a Monday night during the summer and fall seasons, the Supper Club offers a 4-course tasting menu for only $65 per person (seating is limited).
Supper Club is offered during the Summer and Fall seasons on 3 days only:
Friday & Saturday: Reservation only
Monday nights: from 6:30pm – 9:30pm (Reservation only)

Woerner Warehouse is located in the old iconic Woerner Feed Store in the heart of Fredericksburg, and is a café and antique store all in the same building!
Local farmers and suppliers provide top notch herbs, organic tomatoes, fruits, vegetables and spices year round. The chef provides an abundance of lunch menu items to choose from, such as delicious salads, soups, gourmet sandwiches and even fresh pizzas! I got the Four Cheese pizza, and it was INSANELY good! The dough is made from scratch, and gluten free breads and vegetarian options are always available.
As I looked around at everyone else’s orders, I didn’t see one thing that didn’t look appetizing! This is also a great place to grab breakfast to start your day, as they serve breakfast items as well and have a full espresso bar!
Plus, what better way to end a meal than strolling and browsing though a renovated warehouse filled with antiques and home trinkets!

Altstadt Brewery is such a cool place, and has so much more to offer than just a brewery (although that part is reason enough to visit, as well)!
To accompany your delicious local German-style beer (or flight of beers!), Altstadt also has a restaurant on site that offers European inspired cuisine for lunch, dinner or Sunday brunch! They even have a huge banquet type hall with a stage where you can enjoy live music and performances while you sip + snack, if you prefer some entertainment while you dine!
If you just want to enjoy some beer and change things up from wine tasting, head downstairs to the cellar below, which is a super cool, swanky lounge vibe and the perfect spot to kick your feet back and hang out, or head outside to the Beer Garden to enjoy the weather.
Plus, daily brewery tours are available as well! You can’t go wrong with this lunch spot!

Every menu item served at Emma + Ollie in Fredericksburg is made from scratch, with the mission in mind to make you feel like you have stepped back in time into your own Grandmother’s kitchen.

A trip to Fredericksburg would not be complete without at least one authentic German meal, and Ausländer is an excellent option to satisfy those German food cravings!
Offering some of the best traditional German cuisine in Fredericksburg for the last 30 years, it’s no wonder why Ausländer is one of the most popular and best restaurants in Fredericksburg.
If you love beer, they also offer one of the largest beer selections in Texas Hill Country, which pairs well with the live music that is offered Thursday through Saturday!
August E’s defines Nouveau Texas Cuisine as the “uncommon pairing of traditional Texas fare with innovative creativity.” The Chef’s Thai roots and various culinary experiences around the world inspire a lot of the flavors and dishes here, making this one of the best restaurants to visit in Fredericksburg!
This restaurant also sources their meats, fruits and vegetables from local farmers, and Chef Leu has his own quarter-acre organic garden he utilizes for herbs, peppers and tomatoes. The menu changes seasonally based on the availability and freshness of the ingredients, along with the creative desires of the chef!
Craving sushi in Fredericksburg? Then August E’s is the place to go! They use never frozen, Sashimi Grade Fish that is shipped overnight from different locations all over the world to ensure the freshest and best quality!
Another one of the best restaurants in Fredericksburg for authentic German cuisine is Der Lindenbaum. It’s located in a super cool historic limestone building right on Main Street, which just adds to the charm and character.
The menu is packed full of traditional German items, not just your regular Schnitzel that is to be expected. It’s a pretty tiny restaurant and get’s pretty packed on the weekends, so go early or make reservations in advance!
Old German Bakery serves up more true German food using traditional German recipes to make all of their food from scratch!
If you just want a quick breakfast before heading out on the town, you have the option here to skip the lines and sit-down meal and head straight to the bakery counter for the best on-the-go bakery items like kolaches, danishes, cinnamon rolls, strudels, croissants, and so much more! We couldn’t decide so we mayyyy have gotten a big to go box! Ha! They were all so delicious!
For a cool, eclectic and different vibe, don’t miss eating at Hill Top Café! The restaurant is set in a funky, remodeled 1930s gas station that is known for their live music and gourmet Cajun French fusion cuisine!
Although this spot is just a bit outside of Fredericksburg (located in Cherry Springs), it’s totally worth it and will be worth your while!
If you’re a food and music-lover, this is the spot for you to soak in that Texas Hill Country ambiance!
If you can’t tell from the photos, Carol Hicks Bolton Antiques was an absolute DREAM and probably my favorite shop I stumbled upon in Fredericksburg.
I consider myself an Old Soul and have always had a fondness of antiques and European furniture, so it’s no wonder this shop stole my heart!
The warehouse showcases 30,000 square feet of one-of-a-kind antiques carefully selected and sourced from Europe and beyond! I loved how they also incorporated new and luxurious items alongside the antiques, such as magnificently luxe bed linens and pillows, among other things.
I seriously could have strolled through this place for hours and not gotten tired of it! If you’re in need for some new home decor items or plan to do a little redecorating (or if you just love that little glimpse back in time), please do not miss this gem in Fredericksburg!
Another addition to Carol Hicks Bolton Antiques shop is Room No. 5, which focuses on all white antiques and home decor. With the description of “Dreaming In White,” everything is crisp, clean, fresh and airy feeling.
You know those bright, clean homes that stunningly showcase the simplistic (or eclectic) design that perfectly captures the essence of the color white? Well, that is exactly how you will feel when you walk in this portion of the store!
Another one of my favorite shops in Fredericksburg, Blackchalk Home and Laundry completely captivated me!
Come here for one of the most vibrant and unique home decor and gift boutiques in Fredericksburg! Even the actual building inside, covered in exposed brick and history, charms the senses!
Sorry (not sorry) for all the photos, but there was just something too gorgeous at every turn to not try and capture it in a photo to share with you all!
Fun fact: This boutique was formerly a building where laundry was serviced for hospitals and camps in the 1920s (hence the name), which is why that huge antique laundry machine sits out front the shop!
P.S. Carol Bolton Hicks and Blackchalk Home and Laundry are on the same street as Woerner Warehouse Café & Catering, so my advice would be to try and plan a lunch at Woerner Warehouse, surrounded by some shopping!!!
Yes, the very same Vaudeville recommended above in my, “Best Restaurants in Fredericksburg” section! Like I mentioned, they also have an incredible boutique in addition to the restaurants and art gallery! It’s three floors of perfection, all in one building!
Located in downtown Fredericksburg, Farmhaus is another shop that offers antique furnishings from around the world!
Shop here for a beautiful selection of time pieces and hand-picked decor, ranging from antiques to even custom lamps, chandeliers, soaps, scented candles and plenty of other home goods!
Stop by either Das Peach Haus (the larger of the company’s two retail shops) or Fischer & Wieser on Main Street for some of the BEST jams, jellies, preserves and sauces for any of your culinary adventures!
They are super generous with the tastings to help you choose which ones you want to take home with you, but fair warning — they are all so delicious it’ll be hard to just choose one!
I took home the Raspberry Peach Chipotle Glaze, the Ginger Chipotle Grilling Glaze and the Jalepeño Pepper Jelly from Fredericksburg Farms, and they were incredible! The mustards were also to die for!
Fredericksburg has come such a long way in the last few years (since I went for the first time back in 2014), and it is truly one of the best weekend getaways in Texas! Get ready to fall in love with the incredible wine, food and charm this town has to offer, and start planning your trip now! You will never want to leave!
